Petsmart Veterinary Services – Hospital & Urgent Care is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Nurse to join our growing medical team. We are a fast-paced and growing urgent care and general practice hybrid hospital focused on providing high-quality medicine while maintaining a collaborative, supportive team environment.
We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of urgent care, emergency, or high-volume general practice experience who enjoys learning, thrives in a dynamic clinical setting, and works well with both patients and people.

We are searching for an experienced Veterinary Assistant and team member responsible for assisting veterinarians with medical procedures, diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, and patient care. This role requires proficiency in core technical veterinary skills and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced urgent care or high-volume clinical environment.
The ideal candidate supports patient triage, medical treatments, surgical procedures, and client communication while maintaining a high standard of patient safety and compassionate care.
Requirements
Technical Skills & Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Handling
- Confident restraint of fearful or fractious animals
- Assist veterinarians with examinations and treatments
- Provide compassionate patient care in stressful situations
- Perform patient triage and assist in prioritizing urgent cases
Diagnostic & Laboratory Skills
- Run in-house laboratory tests (CBC, chemistry panels, urinalysis, fecals, SNAP tests)
- Proper sample collection and handling
- Assist with radiographs including proper positioning and radiation safety
Clinical Procedures
- Place IV catheters consistently with minimal complications
- Perform canine and feline endotracheal intubation
- Assist with fluid therapy and medication administration
- Assist with blood transfusions, including monitoring vitals and recognizing transfusion reactions
Anesthesia & Surgery
- Monitor anesthesia for ASA I–II patients
- Record TPRs and monitor anesthetic depth
- Adjust fluids per doctor orders
- Assist with surgery including proper aseptic technique and sterile gloving
Emergency & Critical Care
- Perform basic life support (BLS) and CPR when necessary
- Assist with stabilization of urgent and emergency patients
- Participate in triage assessment to help prioritize cases appropriately
Medical Knowledge & Communication
- Explain discharge instructions to clients, including post-operative care and chronic conditions (such as endocrine diseases)
- Discuss and assist with local anesthetic blocks with the veterinarian (dental blocks, sacrococcygeal blocks, etc.)
